Aalayam - BSc Chemistry 1st year student from Kanyakumari

This student is pursuing her first year of a B.Sc. programme in a college in Kanyakumari district. Recently, her father suffered a fall from a height when he was working as coolie and has been wheelchair-bound since then. The family borrowed money from friends and relatives for his treatment but his situation has not improved. He is dependent on help from others for even his basic needs.

With her family already burdened by loans taken for her father’s care, the student has found herself unable to pay her second semester fees. Her mother tries to make a bit of money by de-seeding tamarind but is unable to earn a fixed income. The student also has a younger sister, who studies in a local school.

A teacher who visited the family referred the student to Aalayam. The teacher has helped in collecting some funds to pay a part of the student’s first-semester fees. Aalayam is now raising funds for the remainder of her first-semester fees and the second-semester fees.
